Natural Acne Treatment

There is a wide variety of acne treatments now available on the market. You can find everything from prescription mediation to face washes. However, a natural acne treatment is the preferred choice for many people. As with many other conditions, more and more people are turning to natural and alternative options.

There are many advantages of using natural treatment for acne, such as minimal side effects, being less invasive and lower cost.

There are many natural ways of treating acne. Some of them likely work better than others, but they've all had some success. Unfortunately, there's no single acne cure that works for absolutely everyone. Everybody's skin is different and the causes of acne are different, so naturally the treatments also must be different.

You may have various options for natural acne treatment. Lotions or creams that contain alpha hydroxy acids, salicylic acid or bovine cartilage seem to reduce acne for some people. Or you might try a gel that contains tea tree oil.

Some studies suggest that gels containing 5 percent tea tree oil are as effective as are lotions containing 5 percent benzoyl peroxide, although tea tree oil might work more slowly. (Note: For some people, tea tree oil may cause a skin reaction known as contact dermatitis. There's also some concern that topical products containing tea tree oil might cause breast development in young boys.)

Other studies suggest that taking zinc or guggul supplements may help treat acne. Check with your doctor before taking any dietary supplements, especially if you have any underlying health conditions.

Whatever you choose as your acne treatment, keep in mind that it takes time for results. Overusing a product will typically aggravate your acne. Frequently switching acne products will irritate the skin, so it is best to stick with one, as long as it effective. If the acne persists and does not improve after trying scrubs and face washes, consult a dermatologist for more aggressive treatment.
